The Art of Communication
Some people communicate better then others. Some people don't communicate at all. Some people just communicate half of what they need to and some tell you more then you want to or need to know.
In my family I am sort of in the middle. I communicate to others what they need to know or what they ask. I don't volunteer any extra information most of the time but they always know what is on my mind and where I am coming from. My mom communicates in her own way. She has a way of asking and telling at the same time. She will ask you something but in her tone you know that she knows the answer and is telling you that she knows but is giving you the chance to tell her. She has always been like that since I have known her for over 50 years. I have learned how to communicate with her and she knows how to communicate with me. It was a learning thing as everything in life is.
My nephew, one of them in particular, communicates differently. He doesn't say what he needs to say to family but he says more then he needs to say to his co-workers. I never got that but I guess he feels more comfortable talking to them then family. But, needless to say, this makes it hard to communicate with him when he wants to tell you barely anything. And since nobody can read minds that makes it very hard. Although, I do wish that I had that super power of reading minds. Then I would know what people were really thinking. I would know that good, the bad and the ugly. In his case I would just like to know why he feels the way he does about communication. I think that is something I will never know.
My sister communicates too much sometimes and not enough at other times when she should. But, she and I have always communicated rather well with each other and especially now since we have gotten older and our mom's health is different now. We are closer now and we communicate every day just to touch base.
My son is a good communicator. But, then again he is only ten so he will communicate everything to me. I hope he still does when he is 13. I think that we are pretty close and he most likely will tell me most things.
Communication is something that we all need to do in some form or another. In today's world there are lots of ways to do it. But, I prefer the old fashion one on one face to face talks. I enjoy looking into your eyes as you talk and I enjoy waving my hands and laughing so hard that I feel like I am going to pee in front of you when enjoy seeing the look on your face when you laugh too. I enjoy the personal interaction. Guess I am old school when it comes to communication.
