Shine on Me!
I hardly ever get out of the house for more then a few minutes these days. My mom who is here with me can't be left alone for too long so I have to arrange for another family member to be with her if I have to leave for more then 5 minutes. Usually my sister will come over or my nephew will also. So, yesterday when my son wanted to go to the skate park and my nephew and sister were here I said to him let's do it. We took the 15 min drive at the most to the skate park and some of the neighborhood kids were already there skating around the park from one end to the other. My son quickly got his gear on and joined them. I sat on the other side of the gate on the benches with the rest of the parents and grandparents and uncles and aunts.
I watched as some parents shouted to their kids about this and that and not to do this and that and how the littlest skater who was around 3 years old tried to skate with his father's help up what I call a little hill and down again and he always smiled and looked at me and said , "Good job"I told him yes the did do a good job and clapped for him like he won the gold medal in the Olympics. I nervously watched as my son tried to go in the bowl or drop in the bowl, I don't know what they call it but something close to that, so excuse me if I don't know the exact wording of the thing he was going to attempt to do. I was hoping he didn't fall and he didn't. His board got away from him but he stayed upright. He tried and tried until on the 10th try he and the board were in complete harmony.
Someone brought Pepsi, a 12 pack and passed them out to all the kids. I heard someone say, one of the adults who was skating, that was all the kids needed more sugar. I kind of chuckled to myself and silently agreed with him who as a matter of fact was sipping on a Pepsi too. Sort of like the pot calling the kettle black situation. But, shortly after that young man left Pepsi in hand.
As I was sitting there just watching and thinking and hoping that the kids without helmets would not get hurt skating around playing skateboard tag and the game SKATE I enjoyed the feeling of the sun on my face. It felt perfect just sitting there letting the sun gently kiss my cheeks lightly and doing absolutely nothing. I didn't even take out my phone to look at it once, except to take one picture. At that moment I was just glad to be able to do nothing but sit in the sun and let the sun just shine on me. I wished that my time in the sun was longer but I will take what I can get.
