Missing the Watch Dogs

A couple of weeks ago my neighbors in the next building moved away. They had 3 dogs. One big dog and two little ones. They had a small patio/backyard area that lead to the parking lot more or less and when I would empty the trash they would bark at me if they were outside in the yard. I used to speak to them and say hello. That wouldn't stop them from barking most of the time but one of the little ones I think like me the most and would wag his or her tail and when he or she saw me empty the recycle stuff.

My mom couldn't stand the barking and would always ask me where are the dog's people and why do they have them barking making all that noise. I would laugh a little and tell her I had no clue where the people were but the dogs were outside of course. Then about 10 or minutes later the people would let the dogs back inside or take them in the parking lot and play ball with them and let them run around more. I used to watch them when I was doing dishes in the kitchen. They were so cute running and playing and ignoring their people when they called them half of the time. The woman would call one of them thinking the others would follow and that never happened and then she would call them all and they all turn and look at her like, "What?" We are playing.

They reminded me of my dog, Bandit. I got her from a shelter back in the day when you could go in pick your dog, pay the money and leave. (lol) and when I got her I was living alone in a house with a big backyard and plenty of room for her to run around and play. On the weekends me and her would be outside for hours. She would play some, rest some, and then lay near me as I usually read a good book and after a while we would go inside and eat. She was a good dog except for when she saw the occasional squirrel on the fence she would bark and bark and calling her did no good at all until the squirrel left.

Well, now that the dogs have moved away with their people it is so quiet now. Now, I don't know if anyone is in the parking lot at night or in the early morning. They were my little watch dogs. But I know that they are watching out for their people and possibly more people like me wherever they moved to. Maybe someone else will move there with some cute dogs and they will be my new "watch dogs." Until then I guess I will have to get used to the quiet again.
