The Long Road Back Home

My mom was never one to go to a doctor for anything. I think if home births were popular in the early 60's when I was born and the mid sixties when my sister was born she would have had us at home. That's how much she did not like going to the doctor. I don't know why and she never told me. But, since she's been in the hospital now, and in for a long recovery, all of the health issues she didn't know she had are being treated.

Nobody knew her blood pressure was so high she was suffering silent strokes or that she has thyroid problems or she has a good heart but weak bones. She never complained about anything. I think she just thought it was all a part of old age.

She was completely different from my mom. She was always getting check ups at the doctor and was on medicine she needed.I think that my step grandfather had a lot to do with encouraging her to go. I wished I could do the same with my mom. But my mom is a different kind of stubborn at least she was until this happened.

Although, its going to be a long road ahead to recovery for my mom now at least we know what she needs medically, we know she will be less stubborn about going to the doctor because she hates hospitals more then anything and now she's stuck in one for most likely a few weeks, we now know what we always known she's a tough lady and most importantly we now know the importance of getting check ups at the doctor.

If there is a sliver lining to this cloud that would be it. And she's on the road to coming back home.
