Turning into Mother
People have said to me in the past that one day the child becomes the parent the duties shift. I thought about that when it happened to my mom and grandmother. My mom took care of her for the last couple years of her life. My grandmother was 83 when she died. My mom was in her late 60s. My mom remained very active until she moved from my grandmother's home after it was sold. I think she went downhill after that. A lot of things went wrong in the last 9 years since my grandmother's death. It took its toll on her and once she moved from the nice part of town to the just okay part if that. The walks she used to take every morning stopped. In the new neighborhood it wasn't safe to walk especially a senior. She stopped driving when she moved. Of course she always complained that she was tired of driving for years. I never completely understood that because she didn't do too much driving when my sister, brother and I were little. But, I just nodded in agreement when she told me.
Well, my mom will be 76 in October and she's becoming frail, for lack of a better word, not exactly frail as in I guess the true definition, but she needs a lot more help in doing things and remembering things. She is starting to remind me of her mother and that means only one thing that me, the child, is turning into the mother.
