Splashing in the Rain

Today is like day 20000 of the rain. Ok, maybe not that many days but it feels like it. I do like the rain and since my son was born have a new understanding of all the fun you can have in the rain. The other day we had to go to the corner store because I wanted a coke. I sometimes need a shot of caffeine on some days and that day was on of them. So, of course it was raining but not too hard so I thought that we could run to the store and get back before the pouring of rain started. So, umbrella in hand, just one because my son didn't want to hunt for his. He decided to just wear a jacket and put his hood on. So, we are walking. I am walking around puddles he is walking in puddles with his sneakers on that are in no way water proof. He is splashing in almost every puddle he can see and I am shaking my head in disagreement as he looks back at me laughing knowing that I am not too happy about him getting his shoes wetter then they need to be. Then I thought back to when I was ten or so and I had one of those big bubble umbrellas which were shaped like bubbles and covered your whole entire head and shoulders and I liked to do that same thing. I liked jumping in puddles too. But, the only difference was that I had on rain boots most of the time. But, it was still fun. My mom didn't approve too much even in my boots. My dad on the other hand would always say to her to let us have fun that we would only be a kid for so long. So, she wouldn't say too much as we walked and jumped along in every puddle we could find on our walks to everywhere. Back then we didn't have a car so we walked to almost every place we had to go. We had a red wagon that we used to go to the laundry mat. My dad pulled us and the loads of clothes in that wagon. My sister and I thought that it was the best way to get to the laundry mat.  We missed it when we finally did get a car.

So, as we were walking back from the store after spending $5 on a two liter of soda and a small bag of chips for my son and some kind of juice he wanted and me vowing never to go to that corner store again for a long, long, long time, I laughed as my son jumped into the puddles that I walked around and thought that he is only going to be a kid once and it doesn't rain too much here, as much as it should at least and his shoes will dry eventually. So, I concluded that it was not a big deal and I even stopped to take a picture with my cell of a leafy plant in my neighbors front yard with all the rain drops on it. Kind of something just to remember the day, sort of like a memento I guess.

It is raining again today and the rain is supposed to stop by tomorrow and for Christmas it doesn't look like rain now. That's too bad. I would love to take a walk in the rain and maybe even splash in a couple of puddles with my son on Christmas day.
