Apartment Noise!

I live in an apartment. The good thing is that we are not over anyone and nobody is over or under us and that means that we can make more noise and walk harder then most people cause nobody below or on top of us will hear. There is only one wall that is connected to anyone in another apartment and that is in the bedroom so usually we are more quiet in there because most of the time we only go there to sleep. So, I guess if you have to live in an apartment then it is good that you don't have any on top or bottom neighbors to bang on the ceiling when you are making too much noise for their comfort level. I am grateful for that being that I have a noise maker who is 10 and we have been here for several years so the noise has been constant. Which I don't mind but others might.

The not so good thing is that the kitchen and one of the bedrooms face the parking lot. So, we have a nice, OK, not so nice view of the parking lot and the trash bin is right underneath the kitchen window. Thankfully we are high enough off the ground so you really don't smell the trash. But, we hear cars coming and going most of the night and the bright headlights of the cars shine through the windows bringing us some unnecessary and unwanted light in the middle of the night. But, we brought heavier curtains and that helps some. The other thing is that people have a habit of meeting in the parking lot to chat. Which really is not a big deal but they talk loud. Loud as in you can hear them two houses away loud. I am starting to think that they all are hard of hearing. And the younger they are the louder they talk of course. I have noticed that my son and his friends talk loud to each other and think that they are whispering. That is funny to me.

So, yesterday the building manager had some visitors, most likely family. Now, her apartment is right below the window too, her back door is right there and everyone uses the back door at her house. So, there were these 20 something year old chatting away and she and her husband joined them and the volume went up. I think that the young folks thought that the old folks couldn't hear so they turned up the volume and the older ones turned up the volume too and before you knew it everyone was talking over everyone loudly. It was sort of funny. I don't think anyone was listening to anyone about 5 minutes into the conversation.

Soon the younger ones departed and the older ones went back inside and I thought that was that. It was that until midnight when the younger crew came back and at midnight they stood in that parking lot talking like it was noon time and every one was up and doing stuff. By midnight, I was grumpy, lol, I almost wanted to tell them to pipe down like I tell my son when he is too loud but I didn't of course. I just hoped that this was going to be a short conversation and wishing that I didn't live next to the parking lot with loud cars and even louder people.

After about 40 minutes they all went their separate ways and once again the night became peaceful. Peaceful for the next 5 hours when the first person of the day banged the garbage can as they emptied their trash. Oh, well, such is life.
