Walk Like You Need a Ride!

My mom has never really been a walker, meaning that she really never liked to walk anywhere if she didn't have to. So, most of our walking trips, my sister and I, were done with our dad. He was in the military and didn't mind walking at all. So, we walked all over our city especially when we didn't have a car, which was a lot of the time. We really got to see the city that way and places that we would probably have missed if we were driving. Our favoirte place to walk was the ice cream  place. They sold ice cream on one side and burgars on the other so we were in heaven when we went there. Most of the time it was just us, me, my sister and my dad. We would bring my mom a hambugar back. Luckily, we didn't live too far from there at the time.

So, today when the physical therapist came by to work with my mom and asked her if she wanted to walk outside I was shocked when she said yes. And more shocked when she walked further with her then she usually does with me. It hasn't been an easy journey for my mom to get back together from the strokes she has had but she is getting there. She is more independent at times and more stubborn then she needs be at other times. But, today was a walking day for her. I was more then happy to see her walking and enjoying it.

She said that she enjoyed the short walk and might do it again tomorrow, without the physical therapist. I told her that it was fine with me. The more walking outdoors the better.  We both smiled and laughed. There is a 50-50 chance that she actually will want to walk tomorrow but I am hoping for the best.

I am hoping that my mom is now becoming a walker, finally. Better late then never.
