Christmas in September

Today I was talking to my friend and she sent me a picture of her little dog. She wanted me to see something on the dog's leg and tell her what I thought about it. In the background there was a little table top Christmas tree all decorated. I asked my friend if she was celebrating Christmas early. She laughed and said that she needs something to cheer her up and Christmas always does. She likes the tree and the lights and so does her dog and the cats that her mom has. So, she put up the tree last week and told me that well, it is almost October right? I agreed. I told her that the funny thing is that I put up Christmas lights too but for a different reason. My mom has about a ten step walk to the bathroom from her bed but it gets very dark in here and she needed light to see. I put a night light in the bathroom and one not far from her bed but she said that the hallway was too dark still. So, I got a bright idea and put up the Christmas lights, two strings wrapped around a lamp that stands by the TV and draped some over the little closet that sits in the hallway and that gave her enough light to see her way from the bed  to the bathroom and back again.

It almost reminded me of this house in an old neighborhood I used to live in about 20 years ago. Each year the woman who owned the house would put up millions of Christmas light starting right after Halloween. By the time December rolled around that house was lit up like the Las Vegas strip. Both the inside and outside. Of course, we are on a much smaller scale in this house but if I add anymore lights, there are some in the bedroom that my son is in too. He thought it was a great idea so halloween lights adorn the table in there. I said that we are on the way to having the strip in our house. And we haven't even thought about putting up the lights for Christmas yet or the two trees that we have. Yes, I did say two. But, that is another story. For now, it is Christmas in September in at least two houses with the Christmas lights.
