Heartbreaking Pain of Death
It is so amazing how life can change from life to death in the blink of an eye or not even. My best friend and I are card keepers for this group on Facebook. Card keepers are people who agree to send out cards to sick kids at least once a month. Between us we probably send out to over a dozen kids per month. Most of these kids are battling life threatening illness and have many hospitalizations and good and bad days but the cards always seem to cheer them up. We have prayed for and prayed with the parents of many of the kids on the site. But, unfortunately, sometimes these kids gain their angel wings too soon and that is what has happened the other day. One of the kids my friend sends too was air lifted to Children's hospital in the state where he lives and my friend was in tears when she told me she had a bad feeling that she didn't think he was going to make it. We prayed together and tried to be hopeful but deep down inside, way deep inside we knew that he probably would not make it but didn't want to say it aloud. If we said it aloud then it we put it in the air and it might come true so we choose just to pray and hope for the best.
My friend is taking it hard. After all, these kids are almost like our own kids. Over many months and sometimes years we send them cards, talk to their parents online, send them birthday gifts and follow their pages on facebook about their medical conditions, pray with them and their families and see pictures of them smiling with our cards in hand. We get to really know these kids and their families and our hearts break for the families and friends when they pass away. My friend is now questioning her decision to keep being a card keeper and keep sending these kids what we call smiles once or twice a month. I understand it and told her to think long and hard about it, to even pray about it and then she will know what is best for her to do. It is hard when anyone you love or know dies but especially hard when it is a child. The heartbreak and pain never goes away.
