Friends How Many of Have Them (from a song)

When my son was around two or three years old I used to work at a job center not far from where I used to live. I would try to help people with resumes, cover letters, and update job boards mostly which took up more time then I thought when I first started there. I worked there for about a year. Until life got crazy for me.  Or I should say more crazy then it has ever gotten before. During that time I worked closely with the program manager, another name for receptionist and I covered her desk on her breaks. Well, she used to work across the bridge before she came there and during her time there she got married and was considering looking for a better paying job. She and I both.  What ended up happening was that her old boss wanted her to come back with a newly opened position and there she would have her own office and more money and supervise a small staff of about ten people. She was happy and I was over the moon happy for her since we had a unofficial agreement that if one of us found something better we wouldn't forget about the other one.

She worked another couple of weeks at the old job and was off to start the new one. She kept in touch via e-mails and text messages for a brief time and she even had her church donate some food to us during our hard times over the holidays that year. I always looked forward to hearing from her and she vowed never to forget me and me her.

That was about 8 years ago. I don't know if she forgot me but I haven't heard from her in that long of a time. I know that people move on with their lives and get married, change jobs, have kids, move, and everything else in between and I honestly didn't expect to have a lasting life long friendship with her. I was thinking more of a how are you doing kind of friendship which is basically how it was.

It is always funny to me when I think about how many people I have worked with and met in other ways over the years that I have lost contact with that I never thought that I would. Life is forever changing and people in my life are forever changing too I guess.  My true life long friend, besides my sister, is my friend I met in the 9th grade. We never lost contact over the years and even though we don't see each other often we have facebook, e-mail and the phone and I hear from her every day. Every day we share what is going on in our lives on that day. It is nice. I am glad that she is one person who has not come and left she has stayed and stayed for almost 40 years and for that I am grateful.

As for my" how you doing friends "I will speak to them when I hear from them and share how I am doing on that day.
