Lost In Translation Almost
I really don't like going new places that I haven't been to before and getting lost and wandering around like a lost puppy. So, last week I had to go to a new place that was too many miles from my house with my mom riding shot gun in the car. I had no choice but to take her no matter how many times she protested about going mainly because she hated walking up and down the steps and she hates long car rides and to her long would be like more then 5 minutes. Ten minutes tops. So, I knew this was going to be a long day before we started.
Everyone piles in the car, my nephew driving and that in itself makes a long ride. But, nevertheless sometimes you have to do what you have to do regardless of who is driving. Well, our first stop was my son's check up at the doctor which didn't take too long. In about 30 minutes we were out and my nephew had went to the Mac Donald's next door and ordered breakfast for my mom and himself. I could tell when I got back in the car that she didn't care for the breakfast because the orange juice hadn't been touched. He said she only ate the hash browns. I don't know exactly what he ordered for her but whatever it was she was not having it. She didn't say a word to me when we got back in the car but the look on her face told it all. She had the I don't want to be in this car look on her face but I just said to her that we had one more stop and she would be back at home sitting in her chair in no time at all.
About 20 minutes later give or take a few minutes for getting lost trying to find the place we finally made it. My nephew and mom elected to stay in the car which was probably the best decision they could have made on that morning. My son and I proceed inside a big building with so many offices that it would make your head swim. I think it used to be a mall or part of a mall back in the day so it was big. I was looking for a certain office of course to drop off, which I later found out I had to drop off more then I had, some papers. Now, usually when I enter a building I am assuming I am on the first floor or possibly the ground floor. But, not this one. I see a sign that says the place I needed to go was on the first floor. I was thinking to myself well what floor am I on now I thought I was on the first floor. Apparently not as I found out wandering around trying to find the elevator or at least a security guard to ask. Eventually, I figured out where the elevator was and what button we needed to push to get to the first floor. So, I was half way there I found the first floor and almost did the happy dance and probably would have if my feet didn't hurt.
We get to the first floor and there are no more signs directing me to where on the first floor this place might be located. Of course it was all the way at the opposite end of the building. So, I go inside and there is a man standing at the door off to the side. With a sign over his head that said start here. I stand behind a woman and she is telling him a long story about why she is there and why she didn't think he had to come all the way there for the reason they told her she had too. I was thinking that she needs to hurry up because I have grumpy pants in the car who is probably having another fit about why it is taking me so long now. Finally the man gives her a number and tells her to take a seat. So, I told him what I was there for to drop off a paper and he gave me a number. We found a seat and I sat. My feet thanked me.
So, after I sat I noticed people with packets in their laps and the packets were titled with certain words that made me think I needed a packet too but I was hoping not. I was hoping that the handful of papers I printed off line would do it. But, deep down inside I knew that it wouldn't and I would need a packet of 50 pages like the rest of the people. So, I flagged down this woman that was walking around asking if anyone had stuff to pick up or drop off. Which was not an easy thing to do flagging her down since she was all over the place. She directs me to the packets and says that I need to fill out the whole thing and initial in 40 places on page 10 or something. I was disappointed that I had to do all of that and my few papers I had in my hand wouldn't be enough.
I knew that I could not fill out a big packet like that there because my mom would have 3 more babies besides complain about sitting in the car that long. I took the packet and my number and left. Now, you would think that I would not get lost going out because I just had to backtrack my steps and go back the way I came. But, it takes someone like me to get lost trying to go out of a building.
I don't know how I ended up at the snack bar but I did. I was tempted to get a snack but I knew that my mom would kill me if I took another second longer. So, I got turned around and took the wrong door and was in front of a bank with a million of every fast food place you can think of in smelling distance. Meanwhile, my nephew is calling and calling saying where am I. I told him if I knew I would be at the car by now.
So, two security guards later and more walking then I ever want to do again I finally found my way back to the right side of the building and when I got in the car my mom said she never ever wanted to go anywhere again. It was not her idea of fun being in a car waiting for me. Well, I had to agree cause it was no fun for me either.
Tomorrow, I am ubering my way back up there to drop off the right papers this time and uber back. I don't think that my mom can take another ride there. Thankfully she will be in the company of my nephew while I go. This time I know where to go and I know that my feet will thank me.
