Easter Traditions

Easter is rapidly approaching. Of course I do know what Easter is about, the religious part of the holiday. I went to Catholic schools for 12 years so believe me I know. But, I also like to celebrate in other ways too. I think in my school days 200 years ago it was called sectular. But, I am not quite sure. But, anyway, when I was little or a kid, we went to church, of course, being in Catholic school, church was just part of life. But we went to church and had Easter baskets and dyed eggs too.  Back in the day my sister and I dyed so many eggs we were eating boiled eggs for days and days after Easter Sunday. We would give one to my grandmother, one to my step grandfather, one to my great grandfather, and one to , my great aunt who lived next door to him. Of course that didn't even make a dent in what we had colored the night before. They were happy to get them and we were happy to give them. And my great grandfather would give us a quarter. Not specifically for Easter everything we visited him he would give us a quarter. Just his way of making us happy.

So, when my son got old enough to understand Easter and grasp the concept of egg dying we began that family tradition. With one small exception, we don't boil 200 eggs. Last year we boiled 12. This year we boiled 7. We don't have anyone to really give them too. All the grand and great grand parents are gone. Except for my mom and she doesn't care for hard boiled eggs too much. I will eat one possibly 2. My son will eat 2 probably.  The other 3 one will go to my sister, one to my brother and one to my mom. My mom will then in turn give it back to my son.

We had fun dying eggs and filling a Easter bucket aka a pail that we got from the dollar store a few years back for a trip to the park when my son wanted to fill it up with sand to bring home and save for sand castles. Needless to say no sand came home with us. So that bucket is used as a decorative Easter bucket holding eggs and decorations.

Tomorrow is going to be a good day. Happy Easter.
