Skateboarding For Life

Before I moved to this neighborhood and before the summer before last I didn't realize that so many people young and old and in between were into skateboarding. My kid didn't get into it until two summers ago which makes sense because the whole neighborhood was into it heavily. Every day someone or ten someone's were outside riding back and forth on skateboards or making a make shift ramp to do a trick they saw on YouTube or just trying to have fun in the summer. Some of them who were back then regular visitors to the skate park got free decks from different people who were there. Sometimes someone will come through and hand out brand new decks to all the kids who are there.

It is now two years later almost and some of the kids around here are still into skateboarding but not as heavily as they were before. From time to time I hear the wheels of  someone's skateboard zooming past the house and some of them, well two of them, ride to school on them and back home some days. They still have them but are not riding all the time like before.

Today my son was down the street at his friend's house and they were practicing as he put it and he came home to tell me that the guy next door to his friend's house gave them each new skateboards, bigger boards and barely used boards according to them.  This is the second time and a half that my son has been gifted a skateboard. The first time someone stole his and the neighbor two doors down gave him a new one then the second time a guy gave the group a skateboard. Which was not a wise idea giving one skateboard to about 8 kids. The boy who took it home to "share" it that board was never seen again. Nobody knows what he did with it.

So, I guess there are either more skateboarders in the neighborhood then I gave it credit for or that people are more kinder then I gave them credit for or a little of both. Nonetheless I think we have a few skateboarders for life around here.
