Happy Birthday
A couple days ago it was my mom's birthday. I don't know if she remembers it was her birthday or not and I guess time will tell when my son's birthday rolls around in a couple of months if she says that it is her birthday too. We are preparing for that to happen. But nonetheless, we celebrated hers with her and grateful that she is still here to celebrate another year.
It is always a little funny to me when people say happy birthday on Facebook to people, usually older people, who aren't on Facebook. I don't see the point unless they are going to show them their birthday wishes from the post. I didn't say happy birthday to my mom on Facebook because she is not on Facebook or any other social media and basically that is what I said here is a picture of her cake she's not on social media. In recent years, I haven't even done that much. People still said happy birthday to her via Facebook and I was chuckling a bit because I remember lots of years when she loved to celebrate her birthday and all the wishes she would have loved. My youngest nephew's birthday is a day before hers.
When my sister was pregnant with him he came late and my uncle's girlfriend at the time told her that either he was going to be born on my mom's birthday or before. She was right he was born before. So, my grandparents used to buy us all birthday cakes on our birthday's. After my nephew was born I guess they decided one cake for both my nephew and my mom would be enough. My mom didn't like that at all. She would tell him that they can't cut that cake until her birthday the next day. He asked her why one year and she said because she was the oldest and made the decision that most of the cake belonged to her and she was not cutting it until her birthday. So, that is how it went for a few years until my grandparents got too sick to buy any cakes. After that, they had two cakes. Usually, my sister would buy her kids cake and we both would buy my mom's cake. This year my nephew brought my mom's cake. I ordered it he picked it up and paid for it. I think he was a little shocked at the price because in the past the same cake was a lot cheaper a few years ago but he didn't complain. I know he partly didn't complain because my mom would say if you can help someone do it, the money doesn't matter if you have it, money comes and goes and once people go that is the end. She still says something close to that today. She would say to him when he bitched and moaned about this and that and she would say don't tell me what you don't have be blessed and thankful for what you do have.
So, we all ate cake, sung happy birthday, took a few pictures, blew up a few balloons, and cooked some food. It was a very nice day.
