Blessings
Since last August I think I have talked to a billion doctors, nurses and social workers. It seems that way anyway. That was the first time that my mom had medical problems. She was very healthy until she turned 76. Nobody could believe that she had lived that long and was under no medications and had no health problems. They were all in shock. But, until my grandmother got dementia she was pretty much that same way. She had a few minor things wrong but nothing major. I don't know about my great grandmother but I can assume the same thing. So, basically, I come from a long line of healthy women until the calendar rolls around to the 70th birthday or so. So, I am preparing myself now, trying to eat healthy, exercise, and do as much as I can so when the calendar turns to 70 or 75 hopefully I will be still be strong and as healthy as I can be at that age. Because if I am not I don't see anything good coming out of that.
I was talking to my mom before she had to go to the hospital this time the night before and she telling me about how she was glad that she had girls, well, she does have a son too, but he is autistic, so she said that she is glad about having daughters because in this family the boys all have attitudes when it comes to helping out older people. I laughed and told her they have an attitude about most things. It is true though how the boys or men in my family think. Basically, she is right. She has all grandsons and one great grandson. One of her grandson's left to live in Los Angeles the second, and I do mean almost the second, it is not an exaggeration, he graduated from high school. That same night he hopped a plane and has been there ever since, for over ten years now. He never looked back. The main reason being a girl out there he met online. But, being that he is out there and she is out here there is not much he can do for her. He keeps in touch and will come out for big emergencies and occasionally for Christmas but nonetheless she is not there and he is not here.
My youngest nephew, he is really something. That one sort of lives in a dream world or his own world. He graduated from high school a couple of years ago decided to go to a school in Boston. Now, everyone cautioned him that moving from sunny California to cold snowy in the winter Boston is a big deal and a big change that everyone knew he was not ready for. Not just the weather but everything else that involved going to college far away. But, being that he was 18 and at that age knew better then our collective ages of 200 years on this planet or so, give or take a few years, he decided to go. He lasted half a semester. Now, he is in San Diego going to school there and thinking that after he gets his degree in whatever he decides to do which remains to be a mystery to me, that is when the magic begins. His magic is entails a job at the top of some fortune 500 company, a house on the hill, and 2.3 children with a maid, butler and driver to boot. Not too mention the nanny. He has to have the nanny. I don't say too much to discourage his dream because heck, he just might have all that one day. I doubt straight out of college but then again stranger things have happened. So, I encourage him as much as I can and let him keep his dreams alive.
My middle nephew is the one who will help out the most. I think mostly because he knows it is the right thing to do and he stays here and knows that he has no other place to go if he doesn't. That mentality for him. Which is pretty much the truth. He works and pretty much does all the driving and that is good. Of course, like everyone else, he has his moods too where nothing is right in his world.
My sister, well we are 3 years apart so we grew up together. My brother is 14 years younger then me so not so much growing up together. Every time we took him to the park, my sister and I they would think I was his mom, his teenage mom.
So, my sister and I are basically on the same page with most things and that makes life so much easier. We basically do the "mothering" to our mom and she likes that, my mom and my sister. My sister likes to do the girly stuff for her and I do the rest basically.
My mom feels pretty blessed to have us and we feel very blessed to have her also. Now, only if she can just stay well and out of the hospital. Knock on wood this will be the last time she goes in for anything other then a check up at her regular doctor.
