Dollar Tree!
One of my favorite places to shop is dollar tree. Yes, because everything is a dollar and that is how much I am willing to spend on most of my cleaning supplies. I go there for cleaning supplies for my house about twice a month and go there for other things too about twice a month. So, regardless of the fact that my sister works there, almost all of the employees know us. We are almost like celebrities at the dollar tree. People wave and smile and chat all the time. And there are always some interesting people shopping and some interesting conversations going on between those people. Not that I try to hear but sometimes you just can't help it. You ears are in the right place at the right time of the conversations.
Today we went and got my mom out of the house too. She was going stir crazy and I was going cleaning crazy and running out of things to clean with so we loaded up the car with ourselves, helped her down the steps and we were off. It takes about 10 or 15 minutes to get there depending on traffic. So, my mom said she didn't want to go in and my nephew stayed with her in the car. My son and I went in and of course the toy aisle is the first stop on his schedule. I went with him and told him to pick out two toys and then he was done picking out anything except his favorite cotton candy. I can't blame him for that because my other favorite aisle is the candy aisle too.
In the aisle where the hand soap was were these senior citizens, I would guess about 5-10 years younger then my mom. We saw them come in the store. A woman and her friend. But, by the time they and we got to the hand soap aisle one of them husband had come in the store too. They were loaded up with all kinds of things in their shopping carts and one was looking for shoe polish which coincidentally was across from the hand soap. So, her husband who was looking tired and frustrated tells his wife to hurry and find what she needs. She gave him a look that could kill and continued talking to her friend about him hurrying her and she doesn't hurry him in the grocery store. He gave her a look like "Really?" and she proceeded to turn down another aisle leaving the friend in the hand soap aisle and she told her husband not to be embarrassing her like that in front of her friend and to stop hurrying her up she is moving as fast as she can. They reminded me of my grandparents. They were like that when they shopped together too.
We were almost headed for the check out counter and that is when we heard singing. At first I thought it was someone with an I POD on singing to their favorite song oblivious to how bad they sounded and were just in a zone, the I wanna sing and don't care who is hearing me zone. I turned and looked towards the singing voice and I saw an older lady with no I POD or anything covering her ears that would suggest that she was listening to any kind of music. She was happily roaming the aisles with her empty hand cart singing and smiling. She reminded me of my great aunt, Edith. Aunt Edith never sang in the stores but she would sing in front of her window at her house sometimes and usually gospel songs except one song that she saved for people she didn't want to see. I don't know where she got it from but it went like this, "You can keep a knocking but you can't come in. Come back tomorrow night and try again." and then she would laugh so hard, a hard belly laugh and sit down. For some reason that woman reminded me of Aunt Edith. I guess because she was just happily singing like Aunt Edith used to do at home.
All in all, it was a good trip, and I spent less then I originally thought that I would and that right there is always a good trip.
