Quiet Neighborhood?
At first glance you would think that this was a quiet neighborhood. If you were just passing through in your car or bike you would say oh it looks peaceful. Nine times out of ten at certain times of the day you would not hear or see anything that would make you think otherwise. But, that is not the case after 3pm during the school year and really not the case during most afternoons in the summer time.
I saw a listing for an apartment for rent in the building across and around the corner from me. The ad was on Craigslist and said that the apartment was in a quiet building in a quiet neighborhood. I sort of laughed when I read it aloud. My mom wanted to know what was so funny so I told her. Now, part of the ad was true the building is pretty quiet. I used to live there so it is. There are only 4 apartments and they are behind a gate so if you don't have the key to the gate you probably could not get in unless you knew someone that lived there. So, that part is true but the neighborhood part not so much.
Although, most of the kids live on the side of the building that is around the corner there is a parking lot that is directly behind the building that well, excluding the cars that park there and come and go there is also the fact that the kids run through there while playing what they call ball tag. Now, not only do they run through there they scream out orders to the other kids, scream just to be screaming laugh and then talk loudly and scream some more about who got who and who didn't get who and who is it and who cheated and who lost and who won. They are loud enough at times to "wake up the dead" as they say.
So, when I read about the open house that was being held a few nights ago around 6 for the apartment I chuckled to myself because at that time the kids were outside running back and forth and screaming and laughing and tagging each other making enough noise to wake up the dead in two countries. I was thinking so much for the quiet neighborhood he promised.
I am not sure how many people showed up that night or how many have showed up since to see it and how quiet it was when they saw it but it all goes to show you that looks can be deceiving especially when it comes to neighborhoods.
On a side note as I am writing this the kids are outside now arguing about picking teams for kick ball and not talking quietly. It is funny.
