Wild Goose Chase

Back in the day when you were looking for an apartment to rent it was easy. I remember when I was little and we moved from place to place my dad would talk to the landlord  give him a check and we moved in over the next few days or so. That was it. Flash forward to today. 40 years later or so, they now have open houses, and credit checks and fico scores have to be this high and  you have to make this amount of money, most of the time twice what the rent is, and fill out an application which you may or may not have to pay from$20-$50 for a credit check. They want everything almost except your first born child. It just amazed me sometimes. I guess I had it easy when I moved to this place it was like the old days. The landlord asked if I had any evictions and I said no and he did a credit check to make sure I was telling the truth he didn't care about my FICO score and he didn't make me pay for it. He dialed a number, asked for my social security number and the woman on the other end said I didn't have any evictions and that was that. The next day I gave him a certified check for the deposit and the rent which he prorated since it was in the middle of the month and all was good.

Now, my sister is looking for a place since her son went to college she doesn't need a two bedroom anymore now only a one for her and her husband. So, this woman down the street, about 5 blocks away, was having an "open house" for an apartment she had a few people stop by and said to call her after the holiday, that was over the 4th of July weekend. Needless to say, she was not successful in getting the apartment. My sister said that she thinks that the land lord gave it to this woman that she seem to really like. So, this was the start of the great apartment race.

I found out about another apartment that was a few blocks from the bank. She had two available in her building. One bedroom and one two bedroom. I went with my sister to check them out since I could use the two bedroom and have been looking myself for two bedroom forever.  We went the first time. Walked all the way there and back. So, the woman says oh the one is rented but the two is not. We looked at the two. It was nice. It even had a patio and a little garden in the back and it was roomy enough for us. So, I filled out an application and never heard anything. So, I just assumed that she chose someone else.

Then I see her listing again yesterday. It said that they were going to show the one bedroom which is for rent. I called my sister and she came over and we walked back over since on the recording that they will be showing it that day at 11. We get there and there was no people. No people anywhere. The only people I saw were in the bank parking lot coming and going in and out of their cars. We went to the gate and looked around and nobody was there. The apartment was closed. We called the number that we had. No answer, knocked on the door, no answer. So,we left.

I felt like we had been on a wild goose chase. I don't know if this person actually had anything for rent but if she did she sure was not showing anything that day. Back to looking for a needle in a haystack again.
