A Vacation from Spring Breakers!
When I was in school they didn't call Spring break, spring break, they called it Easter vacation. I guess because I went to a Catholic school. We would always get out the week after the public schools were out. Usually they would get out the week before Easter and we would be out the week after Easter. I don't know why that was but that is the way it was back then. I know now different schools get different weeks in other states and even here. But, if you had friends who went to public school you really couldn't hang out with them over Easter vacation because when they were in school you were out and vice versa. Back then I remember it being rather quiet. At least in my neighborhood it was. There were some kids around but not a lot. On my block there were about 5-7 kids or so. My sister and I were the only ones who didn't go to public school so we played with each other outside when they were back in school.
Flash forward to present time and today in this neighborhood. Well, it is loud when it is not spring break and when it is the kids can be out early outside and they are since they don't have to go to school. One kid knocked on the door at 10 am. Way, too early to think about going outside. He came back at 11. And this kid has the basketball hoop across the street so of course sometime during the day every kid in the neighborhood migrates to the hoop and pretty soon you have ten kids trying to play their version of basketball. Their version looks nothing like how you would play in a gym. And they are loud enough to wake up the dead as my grandmother would say when we got too loud. So, I have the TV on blast to hear it and my mom is complaining about the noise outside and that makes me wish I was almost any place but here. My dream would be on a tropical island or Hawaii or someplace sunny with a beach. I would stay there for the week or so that Spring break is and just chill drinking some tropical drinks with little umbrella's in them watching the people surf and dipping my toes in the water from time to time. The only noise I would want to hear are the waves. I would be in heaven no screaming kids, no bouncing balls, no arguing, no fighting, no listening to nerf wars, no listening to running up and down steps and running in and out every ten seconds, none of that. Just peace listening to the waves.
When we were little, my sister and I, we never went on vacations on spring break or any other break. My mom couldn't afford it. We never even got to the water park, the zoo, (except maybe once with my grandmother and great aunt), Disneyland was out of the question, too far and too expensive, (my cousins who used to live a few feet from us would go all the time but never invite us. We wouldn't know they left until they came back), our vacation was what they now call a staycation and what we called just at home and bored. We had to find ways to entertain ourselves which usually was a game of jacks, go fish, playing some kind of ball, having picnics in the yard with our homemade peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, juice, and apples. Something along those lines. But, we made the most of it and had fun. And we weren't as loud as these kids are. (LOL)
But, it is supposed to rain the day after tomorrow so that should keep the spring breakers around here inside at least for a day or two. Which I won't mind at all.
