21

My good friend's daughter has a milestone birthday coming up next month. She will be turning 21. She's smart, beautiful, sassy and a photographs some of the best pictures I have ever seen. She reminds me a lot of her mom. I can hardly believe that 21 years have passed so quickly. It seems like the day before yesterday she was just this tiny little blue eyed baby staring up at us as me and her mom talked about how cute she was.

Just a few months after she was born her mom packed up her, her stoller, car seat, walker, diaper bag filled with everything from diapers to toys, and enough changes of clothes for an entire week. Yep, you could tell she was a first time mom. I laughed when she showed up at my house with half of her house. But, I must admit, if it hadn't been for her telling me how much was not needed in packing for 2 hour visits with a baby I probably would have done the same thing when I had my son.

We talked for a long time that day and everyday since about that beautiful little baby, then toddler, then little girl, and now young lady. She's come a long way and so have we. It has been an amazing, long, tearful, happy and surprising journey. I have learned a lot from my friend as I watched her raise her daughter. Even though my friend probably never knew she was teaching me. She was. She's a very good mom and has always put her daughter first and did everything she could to help her succeed in life and be happy. There's nothing on this earth she wouldn't do for her.

So, as February turns into March we all look forward to celebrating this smart, talented, sassy, young woman who has blessed us by just being her for 21 years and counting.
