Valentine Charlie Bear
Valentine's day is right around the corner or I should say less then 24 hours away so that's a short corner. But valentines day doesn't really have too much romantic meaning for me anymore. Not that it really ever did. To me its been more of a kid holiday. I remember when I was in grade school we made valentine envelopes in the 4 th grade and put them on the back of our chairs like little mailboxes. Right before we went home we passed them out, putting them in our mailboxes. I got and gave one to everyone in the class. We didn't have parties back then just handing out Valentine's was enough for a class of 9 year olds. I was just happy to have some valentines from my classmates.
When I told my grandmother about all my collections of valentines day and we read them all together. Then I left them at Nanas house. I think she kept them for years. Of course, as the years went by I got a lot of Valentine day cards. I even got a cake once and tons of chocolate candy and balloons. I even met one of my ex boyfriends on Valentines day. But since it didn't work out, I don't know if that's a good thing or not. But, just bathe same I think I enjoyed it better when I was 9.
Then on a warm December day in 2004 I had my son and and every holiday took on a new meaning for me. As soon as he was old enough to scribbled I had homemade cards and pictures for every occasion. So, now valentines day had a whole new meaning to him and me.
His day took on a giant meaning in the form of Charlie Bear. Charlie joined the ever growing stuffed animal collection a few days ago. He was just waiting for us on the aisle at the grocery store. He was sitting on a shelf next to all the candy heart boxes, cards, and mugs for Valentine's day giving. Josh couldn't take his eyes off all the candy until he saw a huge bear holding a heart snapped pillow that said "kiss me". Charlie seemed lonely just sitting there the biggest bear on the shelf alone. Above him was an assorted collection of small bears and smaller bears with little hearts on them. I knew that as soon Josh set his eyes on Charlie Bear I was in trouble. I looked at the price and fortunately his tag had been reduced down $5 so, Josh used the last of his allowance and made Charlie Bear part of his stuffed animal family. Josh said it was a nice day for Charlie and him to be home for the holidays. Yes, he thinks Valentine's day is a holiday. And as of last week so do I.
