Just Dreaming a Little
In my neighborhood probably like most neighborhoods there is a corner store. Actually in mine two corner stores. One corner store that is the closest to my corner was owned and operated by a married couple and they had been there for over 40 years. Then one day on Craigslist I saw a posting about a year ago saying that the store and the house they lived in sort of next to the store was for sale. They were retiring and moving out of the area after 40 years. I was sad to see them go but hoped that whomever brought the store would keep it open and keep the prices reasonable like they did. About ten months ago the new owners took over. A nice guy who looks to be in his late 40's or early 50's at the most. He is really nice and always has some sort of music playing in the store which makes the atmosphere sort of like a supermarket. The prices are reasonable for a corner store and he treats everyone like they are special.
So, I was wondering what he was going to do with the house that was sold with the store. Now, this house has always had a huge white fence around it, sort of encased the entire house so you could not see a thing. I used to call it the compound for that reason. When the older couple was there you could see a dinning room area which was connected to the store when they left that particular door open. So, that is the only glimpse of the house I got in the 7 years I have lived here. It looked nice enough as far as dining rooms go and it seemed pretty spacious and made me wonder what the rest of the house looked like. I was scrolling through Craigslist last week hoping to find some place affordable or affordable to me and came across the house by the store which was listed for rent. I sort of got excited when I saw the address. I was thinking in my fantasy mind that it was a house not an apartment and I would love to live in a house again with a real yard and a real driveway and all that good stuff that comes with living in a house. Then my heart dropped and my stomach sank when I saw what the rent was. I shouldn't have been surprised and on some level I really wasn't. But, for that brief moment I hoped against hope that it was in my price range. I longing looked at the pictures online and they did do a good job in fixing it up put all new appliances and painted it and the kitchen had a sub 0 fridge. Not that I got excited over that I just got excited seeing a fridge that actually looked cooler then the one I have. I was tempted to go to the open house but decided against it. As much as I wanted to I knew that it would do me no good at all to lust after a house I had no way of renting anytime soon.
I don't know if they got it rented but I would guess that if not it won't take long in this college town since the university is about to start up classes again and I can almost guess that some students have scoped it out and made an application to live there. I am just sad that the corner store won't open until October. Now, I know why. They wanted to get the house rented out and work on that. That is my best guess. So, they probably were thinking by September they would have it leased and the first month and last month rent under their belts and then they could work on the store. Makes sense.
So, my house hunting continues...and my quest to win the lottery. (Yeah, I know I have a trillion to one shot but I can dream)
