Sour Puss Face
I must admit when I was growing up I never paid too much attention to my mom's facial expressions except for her eyes. When I was misbehaving badly she would give me the "eye" and I knew that if I didn't stop I would be in big trouble. But, now since the roles are semi reversed and I am taking care of her now I notice everything that she does and all of her facial expressions especially one that I call the sour puss face. The sour puss face is the face that she puts on when there is something wrong like a stomach ache, headache, stiff muscles in her leg, or she can't figure out how to get her jacket on or straighten out her shoelaces. I know when I see that face that she needs some help immediately. So, I drop what I am doing and see what the face is all about. Usually, I can figure it out before I get across the room. My eyes hardly ever leave her face now. I can see her from just about any room in the house and I make sure that I do and can. So, this morning when I got up to check on her as I do many times in the morning and at night too my nephew was on the other side of the room snoring away, as usual, that man can sleep through an earthquake and has slept through a few, and my mom was sitting on the side of her bed and she had the face. I asked her why the face in other words what is wrong and she said that she thinks one of her meds upset her stomach which is probably true since she has to take so many at one time. Sometimes giving her a little tea works and the doctor said it was OK to do so. I made a small cup of tea for her in the microwave and let her sip on peppermint tea hoping that would ease the stomach pain. If that didn't work then I was prepared to walk to the corner store when it opened to purchase a bottle of outrageously priced sprite or 7-up for her to drink in the hopes that it was just gas that had build up on her tummy.
Luckily, the tea worked and I saved myself the short walk to the corner to shell out at least $4 bucks for some over priced soda. I would have tried the 99 cent store but usually they don't have what I am looking for in that department and the walk is longer past a couple of bus stops that I really don't want to pass.
So, for now the face has passed and all is good in the world with her for now. I hope not to see too many more faces for a long time but I know that with all the meds and all the side affects that the meds may cause the face will be back but just hopefully not today.
