Stop and Smell the Roses

I didn't want to do it but I had to. I took that block long walk to the corner store. I don't like taking that walk because everything in that store seems to get more expensive every time I go in there. But, I needed, yes, needed some caffeine. My nephew went to the grocery store for a few things for me and he forgot the coke that I told him to buy. So, I did it. Put on my sneakers and me and my son walked the walk past the barking dog that lives near the corner who barks at us through a sliver of a hole in the fence, past the blooming roses by the curb across from the barking dog, past the people hanging out on the other side of the street all dressed in white which reminded me of a wedding, past Fast Fred's house who you could hear talking loudly through the crooked white fence that encloses his backyard, past the old car that is rusted out on the outside which sounds like a bucket of bolts when started and past the motorcycle that just sits  in a driveway with a helmet on the handlebars 24/7 I think. The store was open as always with lotto signs at the entrance telling lottery players how much the lottery is today. Inside the store was a man buying lots of scratch off tickets  telling the owner that he hopes to win the million. Another man walked in dressed in slacks and a dress shirt ear buds stuck in his ears listening to music I am guessing. He must have wanted some caffeine too because he got a small coke.

When we got to the register the store owner was opening a box of pop tarts. He was going to sell them individually for a buck each and if you got two the second one was only 50 cents. He was happy to inform me of that "sale" I just nodded and paid for my 2 liter of coke, my son's drink, and his candy and $7 later we were heading back home.

A lot of kids go to that store since the other one is closed until October and I have learned to keep a few one dollar bills around when my son wants to go to the store with his friends. I give him $2 and tell him to work with that. Of course he can only get a couple of things but hey, that's life. (lol)

On the way back I did make a small pit stop. I stopped as I sometimes to just to smell the roses. I miss the rose garden that my grandmother had so I stop when I see some if I can and just take a minute to admire the beauty of them and smell the fragrance
.
