A Piece of the Pie
I have noticed that my nephew is getting more like his mom every day. The saying that the apple doesn't fall from the tree is really true in his case. He does look like her more then any of her other kids and to an extent they all act like her. My sister when she was little was selfish with most of her things. If she had a candy bar and asked her for a piece good luck getting a piece bigger then the tip of your pinky finger. Once her oldest son asked her for a piece of her snickers bar and she broke him off a piece that you could barely see. He was only around 5 at the time and when he looked at the piece he said that was okay she could keep it. And she did. And he laughed. She stayed like that until around her mid 40's. She married someone that is more selfish then she was back in the day. The old saying " You are what you attract" or something like that fits that situation too. Her husband won't share a can of soda with her. So, after about 11 years of marriage she finally figured out that maybe you should give a little more. She figured it out but her son on the other hand probably won't until he is her age now. He has a long way to go.
Yesterday my sister stopped by to pick up her bag of sugar she forgot yesterday. So, she has been talking about this banana cream pie that she wanted to get from the pie shop near the nursing facility where my mom was. She has been talking about this for weeks and I think she brought a slice on one of the days she visited my mom when my mom was there. So, yesterday she asked my nephew, her middle son, to drive her home and to stop at the pie shop on the way to get her pie. So, after all this talk of pie I told my nephew to buy me one too. Now, I was thinking after they left out of the door that he probably won't because I didn't give him pie money. He will only do so much with the money in his pocket and as little as possible. He's even cheap with himself most of the time. So, when he got back and there was not a pie in sight I asked him where the pie was. He looked at me like I was speaking a language he didn't understand and kind of shook his head and shrugged his shoulders like he didn't know. I laughed to myself and shrugged my shoulders too. I told him I guess there is no pie today. He just walked away with his head down.
So, I guess if I have to wait for him or my sister to bring me a piece of pie I will have a long wait. This I already know though but just every now and then I will ask just to see if one day I will get a piece of that pie.
