Wrestle Mania at Home!
I knew it was only a matter of time. My nephew watched it. My dad watched it back in the day and now my son is watching it too. He has discovered the WWE. Well, he discovered it a long time ago when my nephew watched it but he was not completely into it before now.
I woke up this morning at 5 am to the faint noise of tiny wrestlers being flipped on the floor and into the homemade wrestling ring. When I slowly opened my eyes I saw my son sitting on the floor playing his version of WWE wrestling with all of his wrestlers. Last night he told me he wanted a few more. Of course he does. He got some for his birthday and Christmas last year and of course he would want as many as he could get. So, I was just watching him play while he didn't know I was watching him and he was really creative with his "moves" and his tag team wrestling. He had all the grunts and the dialogue from the announcers going in a soft voice so he wouldn't wake me up and I was thankful that he was trying to be considerate that early in the morning which on a normal day neither him nor I are awake. This morning he was up early probably was dreaming about wrestling in his sleep.
I remember when I was a kid my dad used to watch the wrestling on TV. I forgot what exactly it was called back then but he and I used to watch it every Saturday morning after cartoons and I think it came on again maybe in the evening. But, we watched it and my dad had his favorites and so did I. We would be shouting at the television rooting them on like we were there at the match in person. My mom would remind us that we weren't there and to pipe down before the neighbors thought something was going on with us being so loud. But, we couldn't help it. We did loud very well. Besides, Hogan's Heroes, Gunsmoke, and Hawaii 5-0, the wrestling was the only other thing my dad used to watch on TV. And usually the only thing we really watched together besides Hawaii 5-0. It was just our time together.
So, now when my son wants me to "Play" wrestling with him and I am flipping the action figures around on the rug trying to learn the "moves" it brings back memories of my dad and me and my dad together watching the matches on TV.
Funny how little things can bring up good memories.
