A Million Channels
When I was little and went to visit my grandmother my step grandfather's favorite show was Gun Smoke. Now, back then I think it came on around 8pm or so and he would stay awake for a good 10-20 minutes of it. Then all of a sudden you would hear loud snoring from his chair where he was sitting. My grandmother would try to sneak and change the channel; she didn't care for Gun Smoke but the second she changed the channel he would wake up out of a deep sleep look at the TV and yell that he was watching that who changed the channel. He would change the channel back and about 10 minutes later he was back to snoring on the chair. I doubt that he ever saw one full episode of his favorite show. But, don't dare to change the channel because that was a "no-no" from 8-9pm.
Sometimes on a Sunday or a Saturday I will watch the Golden Girls, one of my favorite shows from back in the day. I watch partly because I like the show and partly because with the million cable channels that we have there is usually not another thing on that I haven't seen before, want to see, or want to see again. Sometimes I question why we even have all these channels but that is what my mom wants so that is how it is. Now, I was just sitting enjoying my Golden Girls I got to my second episode or so and during the first one my mom was either sleeping or half paying attention. So, she noticed that it was still on. She looked at me and says in a stern voice, "Why is this still on? This silly show?" I said because I was watching it and she frowned meaning that she didn't want to watch it anymore, as if she was watching in the first place. She made me sort of chuckle. I changed the channel to HBO mind you neither of knew what was on HBO but at least for her it wasn't the Golden Girls. Of course, my mom really is not a TV person and never really has been. Even when my dad watched his Hawaii 5-0 and Hogan's Heroes, his favorite shows from back in the day she would give him the eye and then do something else in another room.
So, it didn't surprise me when she didn't want to watch my back in the day show. Now, there is some movie on TV on HBO that neither of us is really watching because neither of us knows what it is and neither of us think it is too exciting but one of us doesn't believe that you can't find much on TV even with a million channels.
