Cookie Love

Every since I was a little girl as most kids do, I fell madly in love with cookies. The love of cookies I probably inherited  from my grandmother and my great aunt, my grandmothers sister, Edith. Aunt Edith made the most delicious, incredible cookies I have ever had the pure joy of eating. But to my great sadness as a little girl loving cookies, Aunt Edith only made these delightful yummy cookie creations on holidays and special occasions. I never understood that. I always thought if I had the gift. Of making yummy cookies I would make them every day. That was my five year old mindset at the time.

I probably did a lot of dreaming about becoming a cookie baker back then. That and becoming a writer or a doctor. So, I couldn't wait until the holidays came because that met a trip to Aunt Edith's house. It was definitely worth the 45 minute car ride with my annoying little sister. I usually was the second person out of the car but the first person to get up the ten steps leading to her door and one step closer to those yummy for my tummy cookies. I could almost taste them just standing at her front door waiting for her to open it. It seemed like she took forever sometimes but in reality it probably took 30 seconds for her to as answer the door.

When she did she hugged us and directed us to where Uncle Jimmy was and the amazing delicious cookies. My favorite were the oatmeal raisin ones. They were huge. Because they were huge we could only have one. But one was all you needed. I ate mine slowly savoring every delicious morsel.

Sometimes we would get another one when we left. After Aunt Edith died when I was in high school, there were no more hugs, no more stories, and no more cookies. I misses everything about Aunt Edith. For a long time I didn't eat a oatmeal raisin cookie. And that was hard. But here were the best. Then one day I tasted another wonderfully delicious cookie. Now, I am madly in love again and I am in love with  Peperidge Farm Soft Baked Santa Cruz Oatmeal raisin  cookies. I can eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner. But of course I don't. But I love these. They come a very close second to Aunt Edith's cookies.
