A Walk in the Park!

Note to self: Don't ever, ever try to give a 9 year old a quick push on the swings and not pay attention to what's on the ground. It causes a painful disaster.

Today was a super nice day and so we decided to go to the grocery store and the park after school. Not in that order though. My son begged and pleaded to go to the park first which was fine with me since I  had visions of ice cream melting in the car while we were at the park if we went to the store first. So, we stopped at one park near the store we were going to. My son rolled his eyes and said no not this park. I rolled my eyes back and asked what was wrong with that park he said they have baby swings that don't go high enough. I asked him what he met. He said that at this park the swings are too low and the slide is too low too for babies. He looked at me like didn't I get it? I didn't get it but pretended that I did. After a brief minute of thinking he wanted to go to Memorial Park. He said Memorial Park has a big slide and the swings are not baby swings and you can go higher on those swings. Being that we didn't have anything else to do, we drove across town to Memorial Park. Memorial Park was virtually empty except for a couple of energetic toddlers running around and their babysitters or nannies chasing them. Josh made a mad dash to the swings. Sitting on the swings was a little girl around maybe 3ish. She took a liking to Josh immediately and called him a big boy and chattered away about her day at the park and all the things she did like sliding and climbing. Josh listened to her as he swung on the not so baby swings. She was pretty impressed on how high he could swing.

After the swing was the slide. The big slide, not the little slide yet. Josh slid down a few times while the other toddler watched and a few wanted to try it out for themselves to the horror of the people taking care of them. One woman tried to go down the slide with a little boy but was pretty unsuccessful since the stairs weren't adult size stairs leading to the slide, the big curly slide that everyone likes. So, she convinced him to try the other slide which was a little easier to slide down holding on to a antsy toddler. After a few slides and a few climbs on the structure it was back to the swings. And that is when the trouble started for me.

Josh was happily starting to swing but he was going slower to swinging higher then he wanted to go so he asked me to push him a little bit. I walked over to the swing not paying too much attention to my feet and what they were stepping besides the wood chips that were there. I got behind him and extended my arms and to push him and went wham falling on the wood chips after stepping and slipping on a plastic shovel which was left near the swings. All I could do was laugh at myself. I was down on the ground covered in wood chips. After I finished laughing at myself I said oh my how in the world am I going to get myself up now. These wood chips were slippery and it amazes me how the kids run on them so fast. I held on to the poll by the swing and tried to pull myself up. Down again I went. I was thinking okay this not funny anymore what the heck? Josh told me just do one foot at a time. I told him I was trying. I started thinking what if I had to stay there until someone actually volunteered to help me up I would be there until the next day. I got up very slowly holding on to the poll and pulling myself up. Later I noticed the bruise on the leg and much later I  noticed the bruise on my knee. But, I was fine.

I said to Josh that I am too old to be falling but not to old to laugh at myself when I do. (when I am not hurt that is)  After a few more pictures and a few more slides we walked to the car. Me, very slowly and it was off to the grocery store where I felt like I was on a treasure hunt since they moved some stuff around. But, we made out okay.

Next time we go to the park which will be sooner then later if Josh has anything to say about it, I will be looking for any plastic shovels or toys or anything else that can make a middle aged woman like me fall. I have learned look before I walk in the park.
