The Path
Last week my son and I and my sister went to the park. The park by the water as my son calls it. It had been super hot the couple days before we went and on that day it had cooled off from 90 to a cool 83. It was windy but still nice. And the nicer part was there weren't many people there and we found a parking space without having to circle the small parking lot three times.
When we arrived my son was the first person out of the car as usual. So, the first thing he wanted to do was look to see if there were any sailboats. There were a couple of boats sailing on the water. Of course just as we got the camera on the phone ready to take it my phone said "memory full." So, I am squinting looking at the screen on the phone trying to see what to touch on the screen to delete a picture or two. But, by the time I found some shade to see the screen the boats were too far away to take pictures of.
So, we continued to run up the hill, OK, he ran I sorta kind of jogged, my version of jogging, up the hill and we both ran down together. He has way, way more energy then me. We saw a black crow or 4 that my son chased away trying to take pictures of. He tried to creep up as quietly as he could up to the bird but birds have that sense and they know when a 9 year old is trying to get a picture. They flew high in the sky except one. One crow just stood there. He stood waiting in the middle of the path.
It was almost like he was waiting. Waiting for something or someone. My son and I walked slowly down the path. We knew we had only a fleeting moment to captured a picture of the crow.
We walked closer and closer he stood there and turned his bird body around facing us. Then he turned back around. We got a tiny bit closer and tried to get the best picture we could. Of course we didn't get as close as we wanted to and it wasn't the best picture but we were thrilled. Thrilled because on that day that crow waited for us in the middle of the path. Something that doesn't happen to often to us at the park.
It kind of made up for our non sailboat picture we didn't get. But, we had a good, good day.
