Birthdays Daze

This is the time of the year in my family where there is a birthday just about every month until December. My mom's birthday is tomorrow. I am glad that she is still here with us to celebrate another birthday Over the past couple of years she has had so many health problems that we were praying day and night for her. She is still here. And still looking forward to her birthday which my son has reminded her every day since last month was coming. We got her a sweater since she is always cold and a light jacket that she can wear in the house which we gave to her early and she is now all decked out in the sweater. My son asked her if she wanted it now or wait until her actual birthday. She said she would take it now. I swear sometimes she reminds me of him. They are both impatient and can't wait to open gifts. We have to get a cake tomorrow and some ice cream and ask her what she wants for her birthday dinner. Then I will decide if I will attempt to cook it or order out.
Next month my sister's birthday rolls around. She is going to be 49 and her son keeps telling her that soon she will be the big one. She rolls her eyes and tells him not to remind her. I told her let's just grow old gracefully and take the 50's head on and enjoy them and she can enjoy being 49 too until next year. That gets me the eye roll. I think she has a problem with getting older. But, as I told her she will get over it. Just go with the flow because there is nothing else you can do.

After my sister's birthday in November in December is my son's next and then my oldest nephew's birthday about two weeks after my son's birthday. My son has been planning his birthday since his last birthday practically. He has a list of what he wants both for his birthday and Christmas. It was my turn to do the eye roll when he told me the many things on his lists. But, one thing surprised me on his list. He said that he wanted to donate to the Christmas toy drive for kids that might not get anything for Christmas. So, we will donate a toy when the toy drive rolls around in the not so distant future. He knows that he is blessed. We might not be rich but he always gets a few toys and things for Christmas and his birthday and that makes him feel rich.  I always tried to instill in him to give back and I think that it finally stuck. Although, last year he did donate some of his out grown clothes to charity also so I guess it is sticking.

I almost forgot about the Halloween baby. I  don't know how I forgot. Old age kicking in I guess. But, she will turn a year old on Halloween. It was funny because last year when my sister and I were trick or treating with my son we were talking about her, my sister's step daughter and we both said that she would probably had the baby that night, Halloween night and no sooner then we got home she got a text saying that the baby was born, Honey.  So, little Honey (her real name) will be a year old and her mom is planning a birthday bash fit for a 16 year old.  I can't wait to see this. In my humble opinion some people get too carried away with birthday parties for one year olds. But, that is just me probably. When my friend had his baby shower for his daughter before she was born I mentioned that they probably got a lot of pink stuff being that she was a girl. He thought I met the theme of the shower and said oh no the theme was blue and purple. I told him I had forgotten that everything seems to have a theme these days. When I was growing up I don't think that any of the parties I went to had any kind of theme. We went had cake, opened gifts, played games and went home. But, the times are a changing. ( as my Nana would say)

Well, tomorrow I don't think there is going to be a theme for my mom and she won't mind one bit as long as we have cake and a good time.
