No EYE Patch EVER!

Yesterday my mom had cataract surgery on her left eye. She had it on her right eye last year and before we could do the other eye she had a slight stroke again so now the other eye is done and she should see much better. The thing is that you have to wear a patch over your eye for the pressure in the eye. She knows this from last time and did remember doing it but this time she didn't remember the operation or the surgery on the eye right after she got home. I don't know if it was the anesthesia they gave her or not but she says no they just put drops in and she didn't need any patch for some drops. I asked the doctor if she could leave it off for the day time and just put it on at night since my mom was protesting and telling me where to go every time I went near her eye. Her doctor said that it was ok and that at night make sure she puts it on and keeps it on. Needless to say she was not a happy camper at night when it was time to put it back on. More complaints poured in about how can she sleep with that hideous thing on and how it made her eye itch and pretty soon she stopped talking me and only talked to my son. I was like oh boy it is going to be a long, long night.

Finally after an hour or two of protesting she let my nephew put it on her and she laid down and went to sleep. I knew she was tired since she had been up since 4 am and had a 5am appointment and a 8 am surgery for one eye.  They said she would be pretty much drowsy for a few hours, which for her that was pretty much all day long. She slept on and off on the recliner and was yawning at 8pm ready for bed. Today was a second trip to the doc to check her eye. Everything is fine and it is healing normally and she has new drops to put it for the eye pressure which was a little high. In about a month give or take a week or two she should be all healed and ready to venture back out into the world and see all the sights, colors etc..that she has missed over the years she has had the cataracts.

Now, the hard part to come is her wanting to walk up and down the stairs to see those sites. But, we will go down those stairs when we come to them.
