Parade

Every Thanksgiving morning my grandmother used to call me early in the morning to remind me to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. She used to love the floats and the balloons. Back in the day before you could DVR it I would wake up early in the morning to put it on and then talk to her on the phone about all the floats and stuff for a little bit. It was like we were watching it together although we were at different places. So, since I was not going to wake up too early on Thanksgiving because I was up early two nights in a row before and was hoping that I could sleep in a little bit I DVR the parade and planned to watch it later in the day with my son and sister. I honestly didn't watch the whole thing from start to finish like back in the day with my grandmother. It had too many people on floats singing songs they were trying to promote I guess and it just didn't appeal to me. For every couple of floats and balloons that passed by then we had someone singing on a float next. Or so it felt like and I just really couldn't get into that this year.

I admit that this is probably the first one that I have watched or tried to watch since my grandmother passed away about 10 years ago. Now, I know that things change and I am fine with that but my parade just didn't change for the better if you ask me. Nevertheless, my son and I did watch some of it  until we got bored and decided to go and make some cookies together with my sister. That is where the real memories are made in my family in the kitchen mostly and even though we didn' t particular care for the parade we still got to share it and still got to see a few favorite balloon characters passing by. All in all it was a good day and you can't ask for more then that on any day.
