Testing, Testing!

I did it! I actually got out of the house for more then a few minutes. Today was testing day for the job that I applied for. So, in the notice they said come 30 min before the test so you can sign in and stuff and have your ID ready and the ID number that was on the email they sent. So, I was up and ready to walk out the door an hour before the test started and left roaring to go.

I walk in the police station where the test site was and I see about 12 people sitting on the limited amount of seating that they had there in the waiting room. I figured that they were there for the test. They had a sign taped to the a pillar thing in the lobby but you had to look hard to see it. I missed it walking in and apparently from the way the other testers were acting they didn't see it either. One woman walked in and looked around and then walked out, checked the address on the building, walked back in looked around again and then decided to ask at the front desk if she was in the right place. So, as the lobby started to fill up with test takers, mostly women with about 5 or 6 men trickled in, everyone was wondering when they were going to start. Most people were staring down at their phones texting and checking email, some were drinking coffee and water, and a handful of people actually knew each other and worked together. One guy said he was coming off of a 12 hour shift. Other people were looking in folders for papers or whatever they had brought and one woman was eating candy.

About ten minutes before the test was about to start a short woman with a short haircut and rain boots on came out with her city ID hanging on her neck and said if you were here for the test then line up, take out your ID and follow her to the room which was a few steps away. So, about 30 people who were waiting formed a line and took out their ID's from wallets and a few had to use the bathroom down the hall before they went inside the room. Once inside you took a seat at one of the tables set up. They reminded me of large card tables which seated 4 people. The chairs were small black chairs with wheels and hard. One woman said that it reminded her of high school.

After everyone was seated and checked in the door closed and another woman told us about the testing and to put everything on the floor including purses, water bottles, cups, phones, tablets, laptops, etc.. If  you had a calculator you could leave that on the table along with your test papers and reading glasses if  you had them out.

The questions were all multiple choice and there were 100 of them. After an hour passed the woman who lead us in the room shouted, "An hour gone, one more left." and everyone looked up a little startled. Nobody was expecting that.

I was done a few minutes after her announcement and then I made a call to get me back home to a cab company. The first one said oh we don't have any cabs available. Good thing I wrote down two numbers and by then I was kicking myself I hadn't downloaded the lyft app or uber app or something. So, I called another one and he said oh are you at the police station after I gave him the address and I said yes. He said oh is this going to be cash or a jail card. I had no idea what a jail card is and never want to find out first hand. I said cash. He said are you outside with family? I said no. I was like what does it matter? Just come already. So, a few minutes later a cab pulls up and blows the horn. I was like I am standing right here you don't need to blow anything. But, I got in the backseat and told him where I needed to go and he said oh is that near so and so street? I said yeah.

Well, he acted like he knew he where to go but he turned down the wrong block but since I was two blocks from my house and the meter already said $8 I was good. I paid him the $8 and just walked the two blocks to my house. It probably would have cost two more bucks to pull up in front of my house so I was good.

I came back and my friend texted me did everyone survive me being gone? Of course they did. I told her she had jokes. Now, I wait for the results of he test and then wait to see if they are going to call me for an interview for the one opening they have open now.  But the list is good for a year. The good part.
