The Bouncing of the Ball

Every afternoon between 4-4:30 pm you will hear the bouncing of the ball on this side of the street. The ball bouncers are the kid whom live across the street. Well, one of them does the other lives in another city for most of the time with him mom. The bouncing of the balls started over the summer when the discovery of a kids lifetime was made when they discovered a basketball hoop, one of those toddler sizes that is adjustable to a certain height  according to the height of the child. There is this one woman in the building who babysits during the day time. Usually she babysits toddlers who are not quite old enough for school yet so I am thinking that she probably was using it for them when she had them over.

For the most part the hoop was sitting by the tree in the parking lot on a thin strip of brownish greenish grass and it stayed there waiting for kids to play for a while and then it happened. One day I looked back there and it was moved. The first move was near the fence of these neighbors who reside in the next building but their backyard, if you can call it that, it is more the size of a big box. A box that you might see for a make shift patio which is exactly what that is. So, that is where the hoop sat there and on different days the toddlers played with it. So, then a few days later the hoop was moved again this time under my steps. I don't know why maybe they didn't want it or just moved it because of the forecast of rain for that day and they didn't want it to get wet. There it stayed for another couple of weeks untouched.

Then it was moved again. I heard the gate near my steps open up. There is nothing like a lock or anything that can stop it from opening up like it was in the past so you can basically go through it and be in the parking lot. I peeked out the door to see who it was and what they were doing plus I had to check the mail. I see the top of the kids head who lives across the street. He is dragging the hoop out with every inch of strength he has in his body while trying to hold the gate open at the same time. This kid is about 7 years old but a short 7 year old. So,the hoop is a little taller then he is, a few inches. But, it is heavy. I know this because I tried to move it once. So, the little boy looks up at me with a look that I have seen before, the "am I in trouble look"  I didn't say a word to him I just watched as he drug it outside the gate and put it on the other side of the gate. I was thinking though why does he have to come over here and play when he has a big backyard and front yard and would have more room in his yard. I know he wanted to play with the hoop but  he had a hoop at one time in his yard and he moved it to the back from the front and from there who knows where it went. But, nonetheless he was over here bouncing the ball against the fence trying to hit the hoop. The sound can be loud and my mom hates that sound and always wishes they would just play somewhere else. I am sure she is not alone with that wish. I doubt that any of the neighbors actually like that sound or the sounds that come next. After a few bounces of the ball the kids start arguing and shouting and the bouncing of the ball can't be heard over the loud words.

Today the bouncing came earlier then normal because on Wednesday's they get out earlier and so it started an hour earlier then usual. But, for now they stopped before the arguing began. And right before my mom was basking in the peacefulness of the afternoon. I told her to bask in it while she could because it won't last long. And of course it didn't.
