Easy Like a Sunday Morning
Usually on Sunday mornings that is my rest day. I don't try to get out of bed until at least 10am even if I am not asleep I just lay there enjoying my bed and soft pillows which I rarely get to do. Most of the time my son is already awake and has put on cartoons on some device we have in the house usually the computer or the television. My mom is awake too. She has probably been awake with the chickens and of course my brother is wide awake because he is like her, awake at the crack of dawn. My nephew will sleep through an earthquake so I knew I would find him sleeping on something in the house, sofa, bed, floor doesn't really matter with him if it is a surface he can lie down he is pretty much good to go.
Well, today I was wrong. My day started way before I wanted it to at 8 am. I hear a knock on my bedroom door and then doorknob turning. I knew that the knock was too big for my son and besides he never knocks on any door in the house. He will just yell through the door if it is locked. So, I open my eyes just enough to see who was standing in front of my bed. It was my nephew whom I sometimes call sleeping beauty when I want to make him laugh or make him mad, so, he asks if I am awake. I told him does it look like I am awake with my eyes barely open. He told me but they are open now. I swear he reminds me of my almost 9 year old sometimes. I asked him what he wanted and he hands me his cell phone. I thought perhaps he had gotten a call and they asked to speak to me. Then I realized that almost nobody he talks to knows me, with the exception of my uncle and his kids whom he rarely speaks too. So, I asked him what was the problem. I knew there had to be a problem for him to be up before the crack of noon when he is not working. I looked at the phone yawing and he says to me that he can't text. Oh no, God forbid that he can't text at 8am the world as he knows it is coming to an end. I sat up in the bed and looked at him and asked him what was I supposed to do. I knew that answer to that dumb question right after I let the words come out of my mouth. He asked if I could fix it. I think that sometimes he thinks I am wonder woman or something and can fix anything or am just that smart to figure out things. I think it is the latter.
Well, I am sitting there yawning and trying to focus my eyes on the screen of his phone and ask him what happens with he tried to text he said that it said the memory is full. I asked him if he tried deleting some of the 2000 texts he had on his phone. He looked at me like I was a genius and sod no he didn't. I told him try that and then if that doesn't work then try to turn it off and then turn it back on again. That usually works for me and that is the extent of my knowledge of cell phones. When I had a problem with the camera on mine I had to call tech support and stay on hold for 10 minutes for a simple fix that only took 3 minutes.
Off he went and since he didn't return I assumed that all was right in his world again and something must have worked that I told him. So, I decided to just get up and get dressed and do what I had been putting off for a couple of days which would be cleaning. Our house is not dirty just messy sometimes and with all the people who live here that is always bound to be the case.
So, as I am throwing the mop water over the rail of the front porch, yes, I do that as my grandmother before me did and I guess her mom too, so I hear a voice coming from the bottom of the steps, it was this lady that I sometimes see collecting cans and when I have some I usually give them to her. Today I didn't have any. She asked if I had any. I said no and she then asked how my grandson was. I was at a lost for words with that one. I was thinking maybe she got me confused with someone else. I don't have any grand kids, by the time my son is old enough to have kids I will be in the retirement home, so, I told her that I didn't have any grandkids. So, she looked puzzled and she said oh she was talking about the little curly haired boy she sees me with sometimes. Ok, either I must looked really old or he is looking too young to be my son. So, I told her that was my son not my grandson. She looked really embarrassed and apologized. Told her it was not a problem I was old when I had him. She laughed and went on her way.
I just love my life!
