Sunday Afternoon Movies
I have one person in my family that watching TV or a movie with is mission impossible. In my family I will call him "Uncle Jake". Now, Uncle Jake came over yesterday and when he comes over he doesn't leave for a long time. That's fine. I don't mind talking with him and discussing his favorite topics, food and politics. I knew it was just a matter of time before Uncle Jake will want to watch a movie on cable. Not any movie though it has to be a new movie he hasn't seen before. So, we search the new movies on Comcast and pick the one that seems to be the most interesting to both of us. That is a process within itself and for most of the movies we agree to disagree.
So, finally we find one that peaks both our interests and I know what is going to happen as soon as I turn it on. That is when the talking begins. He is like one of those people that go to the movies and yell at the screen. Imagine that but ten times worse. He starts talking with the opening credits and continues all the way until the closing credits. He talks about the actors, the music, the background, the acting, who could have played the role better, who he likes and who he doesn't like and why the plot could have been better, the good, the bad and the ugly, he talks about it all over and over again. He talks more then my 8 year old and that boy can talk!
Usually, I have to re-watch the movie when he leaves so I can know what the movie was about.
So, I sat and let him talk and chimed in occasionally on the parts that I liked and didn't like because I couldn't hear the movie anyway. We had a lively conversation about plots, actors, scenes, and everything in between. Then we had lunch. Uncle Jakes favorite, cheese pizza and beer for him and soda and pizza for me.
At the end of the day we had a blast and that is what it is all about. Good times. Good food, good conversation and a movie. I couldn't ask for anything better on a warm Sunday afternoon.
