February 14th
I know it is way too early to be talking about Valentine's day but that is exactly what a friend of mine wanted to talk about yesterday. Actually, we started talking about her birthday which was back in August. She turned 50 like me. Well, she started telling me that nobody did anything for her birthday and that nobody in her family did anything for her. Not even a happy birthday. She was upset about that. So, she asked me what I did. I told her oh, me, I dressed up in a designer gown, with my tirra on and celebrated at my mansion with a huge cake and lots of people. She laughed and said her invitation must have gotten lost in the mail. I told her yep, hers and everyone else's.
Actually, what happened is what I wanted to happen. I had a cake, ice cream, and brought myself a gift, a necklace with my son's initials on it, and some well needed slippers and on the gift bags that I put them in, yes, I put them in gift bags, and wrote on the tag to me from me. I got a few cards in the mail from a few people that I hadn't seen in a while but just happened to remember it was my birthday and I hung them on the wall for decorations along with my happy birthday sign and the sign my son made for me. My son asked me how old I was. I told him and we hung out at the park for a couple of hours and had cake the next morning for breakfast. That was my day in nutshell. Except for the fact that I got a text from a young friend who said he lost track of my age. I lied and told him I was 49. lol Well, since he lost track of it he wouldn't know the difference anyway.
So, that brought the conversation to Valentine's day. I don't know how she just started saying that since she broke up with her ex that she dreads Valentine's day and that her birthday he used to get her something when he was working. So, she was telling me that the last Valentine's day she spent with him was sucky. She said that she came home from work and all he did was sleep. She said that they never really did too much for the last two years that she spent with him. I told her that in a weird way that Valentine's days have been my best Hallmark holiday. I had for the most part, always gotten things from ex's. One year I got a giant bear, which I gave to my son when he was born, once I got an ice cream cake, I have had numerous balloons that said I heart you, and more boxes of candy that I could count. It was almost better then Christmas for me that is.
Now, my friend said she wasn't looking forward to it next year. I told her why not? It is just another day. If you want candy buy it, balloons buy them, want a cake go for it. I don't know what February will bring either of us but I do know that I am not going to mope around on that day or any other day. I am going to have the time of my life with or without a significant other.
