Leaves and Superheroes

We live on a street with a lot of trees. I think they would call it a tree lined street in real estate terms or something like that. So, this time of the year all the leaves change colors. We have one tree in the back that takes a long time for the leaves to change colors but the one in the front has changed into the colors of Fall already. That tree is my son's favorite tree.

So, he has a small collection of leaves from that tree. Every time we walk out of the front door he picks a couple of leaves for his collection. He always looks for the ones with the most colorful leaves. The really bright orange ones. So, as his collection grew to about ten or so leaves I asked him what he was going to do with all the leaves he collected. He looked at me with a "I should know already" look on his face and then he said he was going to make something with them. I figured that was his intention but I wanted to know exactly what his plans were. Sometimes getting information out him is like pulling teeth especially when he thinks that you should be smart enough to figure out the answer to your own question. I guess he sort of gets that attitude from me when he does something he shouldn't be and I pretend I can see through the wall and tell him to stop doing whatever he is doing. Of course, I don't really know exactly what he is doing but I just hear noises that tell me he is up to something or I don't hear any noise at all and know he is up to something. So, he will tell me how did I know he was doing something he shouldn't. I tell him because I know him.

So, I guess he thinks if I know him as well as I tell him I do then I should already know what his little projects are going to be and not have to ask him. So, that is probably why I got the you should know look when I asked him what he was going to do with his leaves.

After a couple more questions I finally got the answer about his upcoming leaf art. He said that remember the superheroes that he made the other night. I nodded my head yes. He said well, I do know that superheroes fly right. Again, I nodded my head in agreement. So, he said well, when they fly they fly high in the sky right? I told him yes they did. So, he said they fly over the trees and the trees have to have leaves on them and so these are the leaves for the trees. I guess at that moment it was like a light bulb went off in my head and I told him I get it now. He just shrugged his shoulders and shook his head and walked into the other room. Probably to find his art supplies and my printer paper, his choice of paper these days.

So, as I walked to the kitchen to make my cup of tea and sat down and relaxed with it and enjoyed the sound of almost complete silence coming from the next room I thought about leaves and superheroes.
