Dear Coffee Cup
I have a friend that loves to enter contests online and play games for Amazon gift cards, Target gift cards, Paypal cash and points towards these things and more. I do admire her determination and patience of trying to win these things. I don't like to play online games they drive me nuts. I have never been much into games except the ones that I used to play when I was younger. I loved board games and was always outside playing tagged or hopscotch or some game that my sister and I would make up. The games of the good old days is what I call them.
So, I sort of knew that it would be a matter of time when my friend would come across a game or contest that she would want me to help her with, meaning write something for her. She said that I write much better then her and she sucks at it. I had to agree she did suck at writing when we were in high school together. We laughed about it then and now. As a matter of fact we laugh a lot.
A couple of months ago she emailed me about this contest for a chance to win a $10 Amazon gift card. She saves up the gift cards and then she does holiday shopping with them or birthday shopping with them for relatives and friends. So, she told me that it was sort of a silly contest. I was laughing already thinking of what it could be and how silly it could be. But, I never thought she would tell me that you had to write a letter to a coffee cup. At first I asked her if I heard her right a coffee cup. She said yes it was a coffee cup or mug as they called it but you can call it either one in the contest. We both laughed so hard I thought we would both pee in our pants. So, she also said it could be a coffee cup or the coffee maker thing. I told her lets go with the cup. She told me that the deadline for the contest was later that week. She asked me if I was sure I could do it by then. I told her no problem I would have that letter to the coffee cup typed out and in her inbox sooner then she could say Foldgers. Then we laughed again.
I was surprised that it didn't take me too long to write that letter for the contest. I got started on it later that day and was done in a few minutes. I think she was shocked too when she went to check her inbox a few hours later and found it in there. She messaged me back and said that this one was the winning one. I laughed and then we waited and waited and time went by and we didn't hear a thing and both had really forgotten about it. Until today. She sent me a message and told me that guess what? "Our" entry had won and she won the $10 gift card from Amazon.
This was the winning letter. I am still surprised that it won. But, I must admit I am a little proud of myself too. Whoever would have thought a letter off the top of my head would win anything.
Dear Cup of coffee,
As the aroma of your strong black coffee fills the morning air I can't wait to taste my first hot, steaming wonderful amazing cup of coffee. I run to you in my flannel pink pajamas and fuzzy rabbit slippers ready to embrace you. I can barely wait to get to the short walk to the kitchen where I know you are. You will be waiting for me where you always are. Sitting on the bright yellow kitchen counter of mine. You are waiting for me too. This is our special meeting place. Our special time. I smile brightly while when I see you and feel you are almost as happy to see me as I am too see you. You are full. Filled to the brim with delicious coffee. I can't wait to taste what is inside of your pot. I quickly open the cabinet door where my cups are stored grab one, anyone will do and I carefully take you off of the counter and rejoice in pouring some of your delicious goodness into my waiting coffee cup. I am so happy I could almost cry as I taste that first cup of coffee. My taste buds are happy, I am happy and now I can finally start my day. I empty you in no time at all and as we say good bye for the day I know that we will meet the same time and the same place tomorrow.
I guess sometimes it pays to be silly. And in this case it paid a $10 Amazon card.
