Wrapping to the Beat
Last night my mom's gift arrived. It was delivered from UPS and it was at night when it got here or until we noticed it was on the steps. Josh beat me to the steps yesterday. He had just happened to open the door to see where granny was. She wasn't outside but guess he didn't see her standing in the kitchen. He hands me the envelope bag that it was in and he asked if it was something for him. I told him it wasn't. He has enough gifts to fill up a tiny toy store so no it wasn't for him. He got that oh well look on his face and went back to watching The Incredibles on television.
Before my mom could get out of the kitchen and see what me and Josh were talking about, she does that on occasion especially this time of the year, she is like a kid too on Christmas. I took the envelope bag and walked fast to my room of wrapping operations. But, I forgot the wrapping paper so I had to make a quick return to the front room to get it where my mom was now sitting watching T.V. with Josh. She looked and asked what did I need wrapping paper for. Her way of asking is that wrapping paper going on a gift for me. I just smiled and kept moving. I got to the room of wrapping operations and closed and locked the door. I then began the task at hand wrapping a pair of animal slippers and a Christmas colored nightgown with lots of red and green in it. I am hoping that she likes it. If she thinks that Josh picked it out she will not only like it she will love it. Actually, he did pick out the slippers.
As I am sitting there wrapping gifts, ok, this one gift, I said to myself that something is missing. At first I couldn't put my finger on it. Then it came to me. I was missing some Christmas music. I was remembering that when I was younger we always had Christmas music playing when we were just sitting and relaxing as a family. It was always playing at my grandparent's house during holiday time. Although, it was mostly jazz Christmas music but when my favorite Nat King Cole song came on I was in the Christmas zone.
Unfortunately, I don't have any of their Christmas albums, they have vinyl records and a few tapes, no CD's. Their music was always played on the old record player in the dinning room that was older then me. I don't have any of the small collections I used to have either but I do have the computer and so that gave me the idea of finding my own Christmas music. I searched for a few minutes and finally found some.
Then it was finally time to sit back, wrap that gift sip some eggnog and listen to Nat King Cole like back in the days before computers. ,
